Flags

Reported via mobile in the Flyposting category anonymously at 08:03, Thursday 15 January 2026

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8691298.

I’ve seen a group of people climbing up street lights (in quite a dangerous way) and attaching multiple St. George and Union Jack flags to each street lights (some have 3-4 flags each) all along the streets here. The lights are now less effective in lighting the busy roads and pavements. In the context of recent rise of far right views I suspect these flags will also have the effect of making our ethnic minority neighbours feel unjustifiably uncomfortable in the communities that they live in.

The bottom line is unless for these individuals were given permission to put these flags up they are in violation of the Highways Act. Attaching items to public street lights without permission from the local highway authority is an offence under the Highways Act 1980.

Please send someone to come take them down.
