Dangerous Tree

Reported via desktop in the Tree in poor health category anonymously at 14:01, Saturday 21 February 2026

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8968818.

A tree in the garden of 49 Roman Way is in a dangerous condition. A qualified tree surgeon has stated that there is a risk of limb failure due to neglect. The owner refuses to act. I would like BCC to take action, using its powers under the Local Government Act 1976-s23 to mitigate the risk to neighbouring properties and occupants.

Updates

  • A new enquiry has been raised for this issue.

  • A tree in the garden of 49 Roman Way BS91SQ is STILL in a dangerous condition and, following previous reports, a limb (branch) has NOW broken away from the tree and landed on a structure at the bottom of my garden (47 Roman Way) causing structural damage. There is a possibility that a further branch will also fall giving rise to danger to life. The owner has taken no action to date, despite being notified previously. We also understand that BCC is also not prepared to use its powers under the Local Government Act 1976-s23 to mitigate the risk to neighbouring properties and occupants - as previously requested - and requested again today. We shall be taking this up with our insurers and hope that no one is injured in the meantime.

  • I tried to report the matter again to BCC using their emergency numbers for dangerous trees. No-one was interested despite my assertions that there is an immediate danger to people and property.
