Blocking access to pavement.

Reported via desktop in the Other issue category anonymously at 17:55, Tuesday 24 February 2026

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8991393.

Since October 2025(and many other reports from previous years that were eventually complied with) numerous reports have been made regarding the protruding hedge located at number 2 Craydon Walk, which blocks access to the adjourning pavement.

As stated in many of the previous reports, this has forced pedestrians(including parents with prams, disabled people, elderly people etc) to either try to walk/push a wheelchair etc on the slippery, muddy, rutted grass verge, or to take the dangerous alternative(especially as since October it has been getting dark earlier) of walking in the road, just to access areas further down the road.

A relative reported(reference 8386041) that he had fallen on this verge because of the wet, muddy, dark conditions. He is 87 years old and had recently had a knee operation. This put back his recovery and caused bruising to other areas as well. He could not get up once he`d fallen and it was only through chance that passing bystanders saw what had happened and managed to help him up. He could also quite easily have suffered hypothermia if this rescue hadn't happened. I am sure others have suffered in silence from falls, trips, skidding, muddy clothes etc. Luckily I haven`t read any reports of traffic accidents yet but as I stated in a previous report, it is probably just a matter of time until it does happen.

You have stated in at least two previous replies(reference 8735459/reference 8302518. There may be others) that an enforcement letter has been sent to the landowner compelling action within 28 days. The landowner has chosen to ignore these letters and taken no such action. You also state "if the matter remains unresolved 28 days from the date of this update, please let us know via a new enquiry on Fix My Street so that we can consider whether further action is required". People have done this multiple times with no success and their cases are just being closed. By not compelling the householder to take responsibility to complete the incredibly easy and neighbourly task of cutting back this problem hedge you are complicit in risking danger to others.

Surely the protection of the many has to take priority over individual landowner choice. The time has more than come for further action/the next stage of enforcement. Please do so.

  • On the 29th January another complaint about this matter was updated with the following response from yourselves " A new update on overgrown hedges. A job has been raised with contractors and appropriate repairs or maintenance will be undertaken as soon as they can". As of the 24th of February no such work has begun. This is an unacceptable further delay to a dangerous matter that has been raised multiple times since October 2025.

  • This hedge has still not been cut back to allow full access to the pavement for all users including parents with prams, wheelchair users and general public. You have to walk in the road to avoid the muddy and very slippery grass verge. This is an extremely serious situation and could lead to harmful consequences.
