Long grass in park - dangerous for children

The grass in this park is horrendously overgrown, in some place over 2 feet high.
My child was playing and got dog waste on him which was in the long grass.
Dog owners cannot find dog waste if the grass is that high and that grass will very soon have ticks in which will cause big health problems.

15/06/2026 Nothing has yet been done about the grass. The issues regarding dog owners not being able to 'find' the dog poo continues and so it is a health hazard for children who are wanting to play football and other activities on the grass area and, because of the length of the grass they cannot play those games. More than 200 dogs are exercised each day in this small park area and so it needs to be regularly looked after. Additional dog waste bins (by the Clive Road entrance) would help but it would also help if the existing one was made upright so that it works properly and does not overflow so often -it is not a difficult problem to solve, nor very costly or time-consuming. Because of the length of grass, many people cannot walk there in the evenings because of the midges and the bites that they receive. Given that the fenced-off play area and its surround were mowed a couple of weeks ago, why was the main grass area not addressed - it would not take a gang mower more than about 20 minutes to do the job plus strimming the area where the new shrubs have been planted. I shall continue to contact you every day until you sort this out - and I am not the only one! You have a responsibility to look after communities in all areas of Bristol and you are not doing so - especially given how much Council Tax we are paying

As I said yesterday, I am back again reporting this issue as you have done nothing about it. Given the announcement made yesterday by the Prime Minister that the aim is to get children off their screens & devices and back 'being children' and enjoying the outdoors you need to make the main grass play area in Mowbray Park (Open Space) usable for them rather than it being totally overgrown - plus, as I have previously said in other emails, that the area is a health and safety hazard for children (& adults) because dog owners cannot find where their animals waste is in the long grass (over 200 dogs use this park each day and the vast majority of owners are very responsible about dealing with dog waste). I am encouraging every owner that I know and come across in the park to email the Council to complain, as I am doing here again. Hopefully, they are doing so! It would not be very costly, nor take much time, to cut the grass and to re-set the waste bin properly upright at the bottom of the park (opposite Clive Road) so that it can take all of the waste bags - maybe an additional bin would also be a good idea! For health and safety reasons, given the number of dogs that are exercised there, the bins also need to be emptied at least every week. Just get it sorted out!
