Construction site mud and chippings on street
Reported in the General Highways Enquiry category anonymously at 14:13, Wed 8 February 2017

Ongoing construction work is creating a hazard on this road (Pitchcombe Gardens), and adjoining Grove Road. The contractors have an obligation under the Highways Act to keep the road safe and useable for all road users and to clear up. The picture uploaded was just taken but is representative of a typical day (it has been far worse!) since they started works in October 2016. The contractors do tend to clean up most days, but their methods and equipment are wholly inadequate. They should be cleaning up multiple times per day, or better still have a wheel wash facility or other marshalling methods to prevent this amount of mud in the first place. The road is now beginning to break up with heavy truck movements (several per day). We would urge an inspector to visit site to remind them of their obligations.
